Italy: New technical products for kiwi cultivation

Dorì Day included not only tours of the orchards, but also displays of equipment. Valente Pali showed its film protection system to technicians and producers. Edoardo and Alessandro Valente illustrated how easily and quickly the film can be hooked and unhooked.

Sistema Valente

"Thanks to a single elastic and quick-release hooks, operations are very easy. The other addition is the film-pushing pipe that prevents it from flapping when it's windy. Everything can be supplied as a turnkey system," explained the Valente brothers.

Massimo Santandrea from Unitec.

Unitec is also a Dorì partner and contributed to the event by illustrating its technology to identify defective fruits, improving sorting according to shape, colour and grade. Italy sales manager Massimo Santandrea explained that "Kiwi Vision enables an accurate sorting depending on the destination market. The technology assesses parameters such as ripening and internal/external defects. Optimum sorting enables us to meet the needs of final customers."

Iridium yellow nets.

Agrintech presented its Iridium yellow nets. Tests showed that these nets promote photosynthesis, therefore fruits are bigger and with a higher dry matter content. In addition, the smaller holes let less wind through and are useful against the brown marmorated stink bug (Halymorpha halys).

Pollen hand diffuser

Costruzioni Meccaniche di Romani Roberto showcased some pollen distributors, from hand-held ones to those for tractors.

The use of Smartfresh, a storage system that is already working well for apples and pears, was also discussed.
