China: Shaanxi hosts promotional event for fruit from ASEAN countries

On the morning of September 13th, a promotional event for ASEAN fruit kicked off in the city of Nanning (Guangxi province). The vice-governer of the province, Wei Zengjun, the vice-chairperson of the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, Zhang Xiulong, and other leaders convened at the event. 

The vice-secretary of the provincial government, Zhang Xioning, hosted the event which attracted 70 buyers of agricultural products from ASEAN countries, Europe and the USA. 

Up until the end of 2016, fruit plantations covered almost 1.333.333 hectares and had an output of more than 18 million tons. Among these, apple plantations take up 733.333 hectares and have a gross output of 11 million tons, which accounts for 1/7 of the total global output and 1/4 of the Chinese output. Kiwi plantations exceed more than 66.667 hectares with an output of 1.3 million; accounting for half of the Chinese output and a third of the global output. Shaanxi is considered as the world's best place to grow apples by the Food and Agricultre Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and as the most favorable industrial belt for apple production within the agricultural industry circles in China. 

The vice-governor of Shaanxi province, Wei Zengjun, explained to the attendees that the countries of ASEAN are important friends to China, as well as neighbors and trading partners; even more, they are also the the most important traditional markets for fruit products from Shaanxi.
