Italy: Good quality and fair prices for fennel

After an extremely difficult summer due to problems caused by drought, the fennel situation seems to have improved. The quality of the autumn produce is good and the market is also responding well.

Marco Babbi, sales manager for Caligari&Babbi in Savignano sul Rubicone (Forlì-Cesena) confirms that "things have improved as plants are responding well to the drop in temperatures. This in turn means prices are also improving."

Caligari&Babbi is currently harvesting fennel in the Fucino area and will continue until early October. Then it will be the turn of the produce grown in the north. Products are uniform thanks to the fact that producers follow the correct standards.

"We export a lot and are quite pleased with the collaborations we have established with foreign retailers. For example, we have an agreement with a Dutch chain that requires 400 gram fennel and another with an Irish chain. We can meet all kinds of expectations."

Babbi confirms that the produce is well-promoted abroad. They are not so focused on grade, but require high quality standards.
