China: Consumer preferences when purchasing honey pomelos

"Honey pomeloes from Pinghe county are experiencing a vigorous season at the moment because their quality is very good. This is mainly due to the favorable weather conditions, especially the appropriate amount of rainfall throughout the year, allowing the honey pomeloes in this region to absorb enough water during their growth," says Ms. You from Zhangpu Yicai Fruit & Vegetables Co., Ltd.

"In terms of market performance, things are still in line with earlier forecasts. Although the export price at the start of the season was similar to the basic price last year, the export price has somewhat dropped since the output started growing. The price will continue to drop the longer the season lasts."

"In terms of consumer preference, in comparison to international consumers of white honey pomeloes which are smaller and are cheaper, domestic consumers prefer red honey pomeloes of larger sizes and better taste, especially now that their buying capacities have substantially increased."
