"Low prices, premium quality"

'The flourishing retail market for garlic in 2016 encouraged the garlic farmers in Jinxiang county (Jining city, Shandong province) to expand their plantations. Reports indicated that the total size of all plantations has grown by at least 30%. Moreover, the weather conditions this year were generally better than last year, without any extreme events, so the garlic output per hectare is much higher and product quality is a lot better. These two large factors have brought about a bumper harvest for the garlic farmers in Jinxiang," says mister Li from Jinxiang Homage Imp & Expo. Co., Ltd. 

"Jinxiang county, being the hometown of garlic in China, has more than 670 hectares of plantations. We have contracted about 333 hectares ourselves. Besides this, we have also purchased garlic from farmers. All the top quality garlic will be exported to South East Asia, the Middle East and South Africa through the port in Qingdao (Shandong city).

"The substantial increase in output has pressured the export price for garlic down quite severely. The current export price has dropped by more than 20% in comparison to last year's price. However, in terms of quality, this year's garlic is larger with a thicker peel so the quality is very good. Exports have grown a lot in comparison to the past years."

"Garlic hits the market every year between April and August. That same period is also the golden time for exports. During other months, the exported garlic comes from cold storehouses and has smaller measurements. For the time being, China's competitive advantage in overseas markets is still rather obvious, although the price for Egyptian and Indian garlic is lower, their quality is not a good as the garlic from China."
