China: Shandong vegetables prices increasing due to prolonged rains

According to Shandong Province Jiyang County Price Bureau's monitoring, prices of most vegetables have been rising lately. Research has shown that the main reason is prolonged rains that made the harvest and transportation difficult. On top of that, an extremely hot summer season also caused poor growth and made it impossible to store vegetables. A lot of them just rotted, especially those with leaves. Expenses have affected prices.

Local greenhouse vegetables are almost picked, the time is due for crop rotation, there is a reduction in the variety of vegetables and their amount on the market, which has also led to demand exceeding supply and to the increase in prices. According to preliminary estimates, if the hot weather continues, vegetable prices are going to increase even more.
