Marco Bergman, Harvest House:

"Silly season in Dutch sweet pepper market"

It is silly season in the Dutch sweet pepper market. "It is, primarily, retail related trade. This has resulted in slow sales. People are not making unnecessary purchases during their holidays", says Marco Bergman of Harvest House. "This is also because we are contending with peppers from countries that do outdoor cultivation, such as Poland and Hungary."

"There is nothing exciting going on in the commercial situation and the supply logistics are running smoothly here in the Netherlands. Pepper prices are low and have been for weeks. Prices for yellow peppers are especially low. Hopefully this will change, otherwise it will be a dismal season for yellow peppers", says Marco.

"It is too early for indicators from Spain, so it is too soon to form a picture for the end of August and September. What we do know is that it has been extremely hot in the Spanish cultivation areas. In the past, this was not good for Spanish cultivation, but ensured a positive price level for the Dutch cultivators."
