Almost a quarter of German asparagus in 2017 came from Lower Saxony

According to the preliminary results of the Bureau of Statistics of the state of Lower Saxony (LSN), 30,300 tons of asparagus were cut in Lower Saxony this year. The asparagus yields have therefore been 14.6% higher than they were in 2016.

The increased production is due to the expansion the producers in this sector have been going through continuously in the last few years. Compared to 2013, the acreage has been increased by 19.3% to 5,100 ha.

Furthermore, with a harvest of 59.1 decitonnes per hectare (dt/ha) the cut volumes have been the highest since 2013. Compared to last year, volumes were up by 10.1%.
