China: Beijing purple onions prices rises rapidly

According to data from the Xinfadi market, the price of purple onions is now between 0.65 and 0.85 yuan per 500 gram. This is 42.86% higher than last week, and 11.11% higher than last year. The price is mainly rising because the transported quantities to the south are bigger. Onions from Henan, Jiangsu and Shandong that entered the market at an earlier time, have already left the market. Onions from Heilongjiang and Gansu have not entered the market yet, so the supply is low. This is not only the case for onions. Recently, the demand for many vegetables has been higher in the south than in the north. Large quantities are transported to the south, so the price is relatively high.
