Galilee Export, Israel:

“For the coming season, we expect to double our volume of Barhi dates”

"The season of Barhi dates is about to start and comes usually with moderate volumes at the beginning. This generates high prices during the first weeks of this exotic fruit. This year it won’t be different," says Yoav Nakash from Galilee Export.

“The only impact may come from heat waves. Despite the one in July, all Barhi dates kept the desired shape and excellent quality,” he explained.

“There will come more product in the second part of August. So then prices go down. Demand is stable, especially compared to the booming Medjoul dates.”

Double volume
“For the coming season, we expect to double our volume of Barhi dates”, Yoav continues. “We prepare 250 tons for export, aiming to have 3-4 weeks of departures.”

The season of Barhi dates is very short, only around 1 month. “Every hour in the supply chain is important. There are other companies trying to develop businesses in Barhi dates. Only those who fit well with the rhythm of this dynamic product will succeed.”

Galilee Export send their produce to the Far East, Spain, France, UK and the Netherlands. “We do see potential in North America, Australia, India and look forward to developing these directions as well.”
