Clear picture of Polish apple damage in 3-4 weeks

It is hard to get a firm grip on the apple situation in Poland after the frosts in April/May. The only thing that seems to be clear is that it is too early to truly predict what this coming season will bring.

"One thing is for sure," shared Andrzej Mierzejewski from Cool Fruit S.P. "This season is a complete disaster. We expect that over the whole of Poland there will be 50% less production compared to previous years. Of course, some growers fared better than others, with some only having 10-30% losses."

It will still be another 3 to 4 weeks until we truly know for sure. The apples are still on the trees, but a majority of growers did say that they aren't sure how the quality is going to be and that it might be difficult filling their contracted orders.

"We do expect that prices will probably go up a bit, but I can't really give my customers any kind of prediction. The first varieties like Paula Red and Celeste will be ready in a few weeks, and we'll just have to see what the harvest brings." concluded Andrzej.
