Spanish mangoes appear on British television

This week, the UK's Channel 4 Superfoods program visited the 'El Pinero' farm in Almuñécar (Granada) week to learn about the mangos being grown in the municipality of Sexitano.

The Town Council of Almuñécar stated that journalist Kate Quilton, with the help of the owner of the farm, Antonio Guerrero, and her team made a comprehensive report of this subtropical fruit, as well as of the experience and promotion that this farm has had for some years in the field of subtropical crops.

According to Guerrero, "it was a fantastic experience. We let ourselves be guided by the journalist, Kate Quiton, who had the opportunity to learn about all the crops in depth, specially about the mango and how we treat everybody that visits the farm." Guerrero also highlighted the kindness and good impression caused by the English television crew.

In recent years, the agricultural farm 'El Pinero' of Almuñécar has become a prominent reference, not only in the promotion of fruits, but also in the direct marketing with consumers. According to Antonio Guerrero, in the last year the farm was visited by about 600 tourists, especially from the Nordic countries, who were interested in knowing and tasting subtropical fruits.

As for the visit of Channel 4's Superfoods, Guerrero didn't hesitate to say that "it will serve to promote one of the municipality's most outstanding fruits: the mango, which in recent years has experienced an important growth and has the prospect of continuing to grow thanks to the new plantations."

This agro-tourism promotion of 'El Pinero' and its owner was recognized and honored last year by the City Council and the Municipal Tourist Board of Almuñécar on the occasion of the World Tourism Day.

The mango arrived in Almuñécar almost 40 years ago with some varieties that were adapted and experimented on farms such as the 'El Zahorí' and, prior to that, by farmers like Juan Jose Castillo, one of the pioneers in this crop. Since then it has not stopped growing, as the people from the City Hall are proud to say.
