Covers were installed with a modern Y-shaped structure so that bunches can be visible from above during thinning and while other operations are carried out. This means operators don't have to spend hours with their arms raised and can work more comfortably. Of course, this also enables a better view of the bunches, improving the quality of the final work carried out on every single grape.
In the photo: modern covers equipped with sub-irrigation system 50 cm below the ground. It not only rationalises water, but also enables the exact dosing of substances during fertigation.
The cover only leaves the sides open for aeration, so the rain does not wet the fruit, thus reducing the risk of fungi. An underground system irrigates the vineyard directly from the roots, so there is no evaporation and no water is wasted.
The company is already planning a more scheduled commercialisation for next year, when it will complete the bureaucratic procedure to obtain some certifications.
"We wanted to see how things were going this year and if we could obtain the excellent harvest we did obtain in the end. Our 8 hectares produce 240 tons in total. At the moment, our varieties are sold on the wholesale market," explains technician Rosario Giudice.
"We have already started talking to retailers and should reach an agreement already for next year's first harvest."
"We have started the procedures to obtain the certification attesting the ethical value of our company and are working with CCPB in Bologna regarding the organic certification. We know certifications are essential conditions to work with retailers, which are very strict about the parameters that need to be met to the benefit of final consumers. They are actually perfectly in line with our company's management policies."
The Acate area is considered one of the most suitable for the cultivation of fruit and vegetables thanks to its exceptional soil and weather conditions and for the abundance of skilled labour.
"The company owns a modern processing and storage warehouse, as we believe we must be well-organised and efficient right from the start, leaving nothing to chance. Harvesting starts in early July with the Victoria variety."
