Potatoes much more expensive

The Netherlands: cucumbers cheaper for consumers than in 2000

At the start of this century a consumer was still paying 81 cents for a cucumber. That's 15 cents more than they're paying this year. Potatoes, on the other hand, are at their highest level in the 21st century.

The figures come from the CBS research into consumer prices. They have been keeping an eye on the average prices of consumption items since 2000. This includes potatoes, bananas, mushrooms and cucumbers.

What is striking is that the price of tomato ketchup has risen considerably. It increased gradually from 1.55 to 2.83 Euro.
