He indicates that the demand surpassed the supply at multiple moments this season. "I suspect various growers reduced their production due to the lesser sales in 2016. This is one of the reasons this season really stands out. It is going a lot more quickly than in other years."
Appearance and quality
As he indicated earlier, there is more going to the two countries in southern Europe. More goes to Spain and Portugal during the holiday period every year, but it's going really quickly this year. I believe the higher demand has multiple reasons. First of all more people are going on holiday here rather than in countries with a higher terror threat. The mushrooms season also started earlier there, so there is less supply. Mushrooms are also popular among tourists there. They aren't always satisfied with the local quality and want mushrooms from Belgium or the Netherlands. The appearance and quality of our mushrooms is hugely appreciated."
