Bas van Walderveen:

"'Good market for Argentinian Navels"

The import season for Argentinian citrus has begun at Bij Van Walderveen from Nieuwegein in the Netherlands. "The market is very good. South Africa is experiencing problems with Navels in the Eastern and Western Cape. This means there is ample room for the Argentinian product. Argentina is having a normal harvest, resulting in good demand and good prices", says Bas van Walderveen.

The importer is receiving weekly stocks from Argentina. Next week they will get Nadorcott mandarins. The first Valencia oranges are expected in a few weeks. "The focus will be on the international market in the coming weeks. Although the demand for citrus is traditionally lower, we have nothing to complain about. We will shortly have high quality Argentinian citrus at our disposal, so we can readily meet the demand", says Bas.

Van Walderveen has made citrus its speciality. The company has even set up an experimental orchard in Morocco to be able to guarantee year round supply. This will also be used to supplement products from Spain, Argentina, Uruguay and South Africa.
