South Africa and Argentina, the most important global players, have up to now both sent more than last year. "The numbers from Argentina show that up to week 26, they have already exported 136.291 pallets compared to 117.571 last year.
South Africa's numbers show that they have already exported 12.656.377 ton compared to last year's 10.431.893 ton", says the importer. "Prices range between EUR 22-24 for Argentinian lemons (18 kg) and EUR 19-20 for RSA lemons (15 kg). All in all, a realistic level that benefit everyone. "
"Both South Africa and Argentina have made major efforts with regards to black spot. This has resulted in strict outbound control and higher export volumes to Russia and other "new" markets", continues Gert-Jan.
"It will surprise the 'ordinary' consumer how many lemons we consume and how many products there are that have lemons in them. A few examples are fizzy drinks (Coca Cola!), cosmetics, food stuffs, medicine, cleaning products, sterilizing product etc. A lemon is 100% usable."
