China: Floods destroy banana plantations in Guangxi, Guangdong and many other regions

Apart from Hunan, 9 cities and 28 counties in Guangxi have been flooded. According to an Agricultural Financial Network Banana Expert, many low-lying banana production areas in Guangxi and Guangdong are suffering. Banana plantations in areas such as Nanning, Yulin and Wuzhou in Guangxi, and Zhaoqing and Yunfu in Guangdong, are all flooded, and have been for the past 72 hours. The water is already 1 meter high!

Banana plantations destroyed by the flood

Under the influence of the heavy rainfall, different counties and cities in Guangxi, such as Wuming, Mashan and Shanglin in Nanning, Baise, Wuzhou and Yulin, have all suffered different degrees of flooding.

In Guangxi, the rain continues to fall, raising the chances of plant diseases and pests, which will influence the product quality. The bananas in Guangxi are now in a phase where they are in need of fertilizer. Because of the rain, it is not possible to provide it, which will obstruct their growth.

There has not been a flood in Hunan for 98 years, but Guangxi is now in a state of emergency!

If the banana plantations are flooded for over 20 hours, it will damage the roots. However, as this flood has already lasted over 72 hours, chances are getting higher that the roots will die. This flood will severely decrease the banana production volume.
