Results of the survey at wholesale market Munich

Germany: 98% want to keep Sendling location

Over six days, more than 130 participants, traders, workers and people from Munich were surveyed at and around the wholesale market as well as online. The goal was to capture the mood of merchants, workers and residents. How important is the wholesaler in Sendling to them and what should its future look like?

95% of the respondents said the market was part of Munich and 98% even called it a part of Sendling. "The parties concerned are aware that not only this particular district is attached to the market but it also plays a large role for tourist attractions such as the Viktualienmarket," says Andreas Buchner, CEO of Hausladen Fruchthandeslgesellschaft mbH and supporter of the location-initiative.

For 9 out of 10 respondents, another location is not an option, as the central position of the market is essential. Almost 82% fear the loss of their job if the market is moved.

Aside from the economic worth there are many social benefits. More than two thirds of the surveyed persons are under the impression that the wholesale market aids immigration by providing many jobs for people with different nationalities and diverse qualifications.

Many hope for a quick solution for the new facility. Around 39.8% want the new market before 2020. 91% of respondents think that the merchants need the planning security. "The numbers show that neither merchants nor customers can or want to waste any more time. They expect a quick and positive decision for the location, which then in turn will be implemented in a timely manner," Christian Kieslinger, CEO and shareholder of the company Früchte Feldbrach GmbH and co-initiator of the location-initiative explains.

"We are happy about the lively and especially positive participation in our survey. We felt that many want the location Sendlingen to continue to exist. But we were still surprised to see how important it really was to the people," he says.
