Goodfarmer: Why foreign company structures create quality advantage

"Recently, Chinese domestic horticulture and growing technology has been improving, as well as the quality of domestically produced fruit. However, often, quality levels do no yet reach those of imported fruits. This is because of a number of factors, such as differences in production environment, production structure, management, and food safety awareness. As opposed to small farmers in China, company and production structures are usually more elaborate abroad, bringing financial benefits. This improves management, and allows for more effective quality control," explains Xuan Xuan Liu of Goodfarmer Foods Holding (Group).

"Goodfarmer buys different kinds of excellent fruits from production sites in China and abroad. It then sells these products both online and offline to large scale markets, such as the Jiangnan market in Guangzhou, the Huizhan market in Shanghai and the Xinfadi market in Beijing. Moreover, we have built stable, long term relationships with large scale retailers, such as Vanguard, Walmart, Carrefour, Jingdong and Tianmall, and e-commerce platforms, such as Fruit Day and Benlai.com. Around 60% of our total purchases is imported. We mainly use the ports of Shanghai, Guangzhou, Tianjin and Dalian."

"One of our main purchase standards is high quality. Apart from having local inspection teams at the production sites that abide by the strict rules of Goodfarmer, we also have long term cooperations with large scale producers, so we can guarantee a sufficient supply and a stable product quality."

"Currently, we mainly deliver to the warehouses of large retailers and communities. Community delivery is just picking up, so the volume is not big yet. In order to let our partners gain more insight into our company, we will be attending many large fruit and vegetable conferences, such as the Asia Fruit Logistica exhibition in Hong Kong in September.
