UK and Danish organic promotion scoops over 8 million in EU grants

Every farmer has his own opinion about the European Union. Some of them see it as an advantage, others only recall the disadvantages. One of the advantages to many producers, is the availablility of grants to promote and provide consumers and traders with information on available products in the market.

In 2016, the European Commission' CHAFEA (Consumer, Health, Agriculture and Food Executive Agency) awarded 6 such grants for the the promotion of several products.

An overview shows that the promotion of various products and product categories was awarded a total of 17.427.216 euros.

It is remarkable that almost half of this amount was awarded to the promotion of organic products in the UK and Denmark. For this goal, a total sum of 8.437.056 euros was made available to the British Organic Trade Board and the Danish Økologisk Landsforening.

Other remarkable horticultural product groups that obtained promotional grants where poinsettia, for which Stars for Europe received 1.399.478 euros in subsidies for the promotion of poinsettia in France, Germany, Poland and Sweden.
