"We hope we don’t get the banana diseases"
Few diseases in the Dominican Republic
He indicates that Banama’s total area is more than 600 hectares, and that it’s mostly located in the northwest of the country. “We have very good weather circumstances to grow the bananas organically in the Dominican Republic. There are very few diseases we have to combat. Of course, we can’t control this, other countries are struggling with this. Hopefully, the banana diseases don’t end up in our plantations.” Plans are big for the coming years. “We want to continue expanding in production and quality. We want to become more professional step by step.”
There’s much demand for organic bananas. “We supply to the US, Europe and Japan. To reach new customers, we visit various fairs, such as the Macfrut in Rimini.” Besides growing and trading, the company is also active in development aid. “We also help employees and growers who have joined us to improve the quality of their lives. To that end, we are cooperating in various social projects.”
