Jingdong and Mitsubishi Chemicals to expand fresh produce services

According to a report from the Japanese media, Jingdong group and the Japanese Mitsubishi Chemicals holding group will establish a service cooperation in the field of the botanical processing industry. Jingdong will set foot in the industry of vegetable production, while Mitsubishi Chemicals will provide technology for the cultivation and processing of plants. Within the framework of the cooperation between Jingdong and Mitsubishi Chemicals, self-operating botanical factories will be established in Beijing, Shanghai and Canton in order to expand the fresh produce industry and services.

Jingdong is currently building is the company's botanical factory of around 10,000 square metres in the Tongzhou district in Beijing. The factory will become operational before the spring of 2018. The funding for the complex will be around 800 million yen JPY (or around 49 million RMB). Mitsubishi Chemicals will provide a water tilling cultivation system and offer technology and guidance in the fields of variety selection, sowing, harvesting and packaging. Moreover, the Japanese company will help in the establishment of an administration system for the health and hygiene management and the records of the vegetable production. Jingdong will use its own cultivation and logistics network to guarantee a strong product that is fresh, healthy and safe. Annual Mitsubishi Chemicals sales from its botanical factory service reaches 1.5 billion yen. The company established a joint venture in China in 2014, effectively entering the Chinese market.
