Markets open in Europe

Mexico: Morelos avocado is recognized internationally

The president of Avocados of Morelos, Jesus Arenas Cano, said that they expected to export at least 10 thousand tons of avocado to Europe, the Middle East, Canada, and Japan this year.

He also said that Morelos produced about 35 thousand tons of avocado each year.

They began working to export avocados three years ago and, fortunately, production and demand for the product have increased.

"The avocado of Morelos has positioned itself and it is internationally recognized. The product is scarce in some seasons of the year because of the high demand there is for it from other countries, which combined with climatic changes, leaves us with very few avocados to sell in the region," he said.

He said that they were currently working to certify the orchards for export purposes, and that they expected to meet all the necessary points to start sending the fruit soon.

Arenas Cano said that they had the support of the state government and that they were working together to achieve this project in the remaining months of the year.

In this sense, the president of Avocados of Morelos said that the municipality of Ocuituco alone had 1,300 square meters devoted to the production of avocado.
