Diamond Fruit Growers recognized with Oregon Governor’s OSHA Award

Diamond Fruit Growers, the Odell, OR-based pear producer for Oneonta Starr Ranch Growers in Wenatchee, WA, was honored earlier this year with the 2017 Oregon Governor’s Occupational Safety and Health Conference Safety Committee Award.

The award came during the Oregon OSHA conference ceremony held in Portland on March 8 and was covered in the June-July 2017 issue of Health Safety Resource published by Oregon OSHA.

Diamond Fruit Growers, which over the past 100-plus years has become one of North America’s largest pear producers, was recognized for its exemplary in-house safety measures. Nominees are considered by OSHA for the award, and according to Oregon OSHA Public Information Officer Aaron Corvin, “We’re looking for a company that demonstrates its safety committee has made significant accomplishments.”

Among the efforts that brought Diamond Fruit Growers recognition were its implementation of a work order system to regularly address concerns, a companywide weekly safety talk and making safety upgrades to the packing line and in the warehouse.

Scott Marboe, director of marketing at Oneonta Starr Ranch Growers, said, “This was great effort by the crew down at Diamond, and we’re very proud of the team for receiving the State of Oregon’s 2017 Governors Occupational Safety and Health Conference Safety Committees Award for 2017.”
