Presented by Fruit Day and the Associations for California and Northwest American Cherries

"First Chinese "2017 taste guide for American cherries"

In June, the production season for cherries in northwestern America started. Every one of their breeds has come to the Chinese market. As one of the most important markets for these cherries, China imports around 10% of the total production volume. The cherries are more and more in demand in China, but which ones are the tastiest? When do they taste the best? The Chinese consumer has no idea.

To give the consumer more knowledge about American cherries, so they can pick the best ones, fresh produce retailer Fruit Day, the Californian Cherry Association and the Northwest American Cherry Association have issued the "2017 taste guide for American cherries". From three perspectives, geography, public reputation, and breed, this map explains American cherries in detail. It is the very first "food guide" for American cherries.

Geography: 2017 is a big year for American cherries

Because of a suitable climate and geography, their highly developed agricultural biotechnology, and their innovation in breeding, American cherries are world leaders in the international cherry market.

The production of American cherries is divided into two areas: California and the northwest (with Washington at its center). This summer, low temperatures have delayed the flowering season of cherries in America, which means their production time will be longer. 2017 is a big year for American cherries. It is estimated that they will have a bumper harvest, and that they will maintain their high product quality.

Californian cherries are the "overture" for the American cherries season. They turn ripe every year around the end of April, but this year that was delayed until 4 May. The good news, however, is that, because there was little rain and few temperature fluctuations, the quality and production volume of the Californian cherries are higher than ever.

In the northwest, the low temperatures have extended the production time for cherries by half a month, until the middle of June. However, whether it is the production area or the annual production volume, the northwest is now the biggest producer of American cherries. It is estimated that the production volume will reach its peak in July. It will be 220,000 tons, which is 8% higher than last year.

Public reputation: which American cherries do the Chinese consumers like best?

Over the years, sales data and user surveys from Fruit Day have shown that Chinese consumers all have their own demands and preferences for the size, shape, taste, color, and hardness of cherries.

When it comes to breeds, Fruit Day has discussed ten breeds of American cherries. This information all comes from a Fruit Day purchase team of "fruit hunters", who observe in America. For eight years, their "fruit hunters" have looked for good cherries all over America. Sequoia cherries and Ruby cherries are taking the lead in China. With this guide, lovers of cherries will be able to have more information, when they are tasting American cherries. It will give them a feeling of joy.

Breed: Fruit Day Cherry Festival show "the beautiful things in life"

The Fruit Day Cherry Festival is an annual cherry festival. It revolves around Californian and northwest American cherries, and has a series of promotional activities. At the festival of 2017, Fruit Day maintains a strict control over the product quality, and it introduces new products. For red cherry breeds, it mainly promotes 9ROW cherries from northwest America. For new products, apart from the Ruby cherries which have an exclusive sales right in China, Fruit Day will also introduce GEE WHIZ Renee cherries this year. Because of their outstanding quality and recognizable packaging, the industry also calls them "yellow box Renee".
