China: Analysis of this year's onion price predicts continuous drop

Right now is the time that a large quantity of onions enters the market. A production volume of 5000 kg per mu does not give farmers a good income, because the produce is selling poorly, becoming a real problem. From the end of May, the domestic onion price has been dropping constantly. At the moment, it is the same as the cost price.

There are mainly yellow, red and purple onions on the market now. According to an analysis of different production sites, the supply of purple onions from Shandong is alright in the short-term, but the supply of yellow onions is a problem. Onions from production areas such as Tancheng county in Linyi, Anqiu county in Weifang, and Shen county in Liaocheng, have started to enter the market. It is estimated that in a week, a large quantity of onions will enter the market.

Apart from yellow onions from Xinye, other production sites in Henan are mainly supplying red onions. The supply of yellow onions from Xinye county in Nanyang will slowly come to an end, as they have entered the market rather early. Production sites in Sichuan, such as Chengdu and Xichang, mainly produce red onions. They are also approaching the end of their sales period.

Garlic from Jiangsu has entered the market too, but their onions are lagging behind. It is estimated that their sale will start next week. From the overall analysis, it can be seen that the onion market is sufficient right now. In the short-term, there will be no shortage of supply either. That is why the price continues to drop.
