Organic avocado and grapefruit from Mexico at Fairtrasa Holland
Patrick formed a cooperation, found a packhouse, helped them with their certifications (Organic, Global Gap and Fairtrade), with the export and found them their first clients in Europe. Within a year the future of these small scale growers looked completely different. Until now, he claims that their income has increased minimum 10 times of what they had and every season they are sure of the fact that their products will find a consumer via the network of Fairtrasa Holland B.V.
A similar situation was found by Patrick with a number of Grapefruit growers who even reached the point that they should not harvest their crop and even should stop growing grapefruits. After Patrick’s interference they continued their work and nowadays they export several containers of organic certified grapefruits from the variety, Ruby Red and Rio Red to Rotterdam. There Fairtrasa Holland takes over the containers and markets them to the retail- and healthfoodmarket all through Europe.
“When we started with Fairtrasa Holland in 2013 we knew that there was work to do” says Peter Abma, commercial director at Fairtrasa Holland. “There was a small clientbase and not in the right segment. This way it was very difficult to grow the company and we couldn’t absorb the extra volumes from our colleagues. Luckily we had the freedom to find an create a strong and professional team around us in Poeldijk. Looking at the latest developments we can say that we managed!”
The first containers with organic Avocado and Grapefruits will be expected in Poeldijk in week 26.
