Fruitimprese data on fresh produce trade during the first three months of 2017

Exported volumes dropped (-8.2%) during the first three months of 2017 but the value increased by 5.8%. Imports grew both in volume (+7.6%) and value (+8%). The balance is €328 million, i.e. 0.3% less than 2016.

Italy exported 1 billion tons of produce for €1.290 billion.

As regards volume, the sign was negative for vegetables (-13.8%), citrus fruit (-19.5%) and fresh fruit (-2.9%) while there was an increase for dried fruit (+6.9%). As regards value, fresh fruit (+5%) and vegetables (+12.6%) did well, while the sign was negative for citrus fruit (-9.7%) and dried fruit (-5.7%). 

As regards imports, Italy bought approximately 947 thousand tons of produce for €961 million.

Volumes of vegetables decreased (-1.6%) while there was an increase in volumes of citrus fruit (+48.9%), fresh fruit (+9.3%), dried fruit (+8.5%) and tropical fruit (+9.8%). As regards value, the sign was negative for dried fruit (-15.2%) while citrus fruit (+43.2%), vegetables (+24.5%), dried fruit (+14.6%) and tropical fruit (+7.5%) increased.
