End of campaign in Huelva and start of strawberry harvest in Avila

The Moguer-based cooperative Cuna de Platero has started harvesting strawberries in the province of Avila; an initiative that allows it to offer its customers berries all year round. Once the high temperatures have put an end to the campaign in Huelva, Castile-Leon takes the baton, producing strawberries from June to November.

As explained by the general director of Cuna de Platero, Juan Báñez, "the temperatures of northern Spain in summer allow us to continue offering our customers quality fruit with a great flavour during the summer season." In this way, the company is giving shape to its concept "Your Global Berry Partner", featured in its different brands and which indicates its capacity to offer fruit all year round.

In the five hectares devoted to the production of summer strawberries, "the criteria and environmental and sustainability requirements are the same as those applied in Huelva," pointed out Báñez, who stated that this is "one more step to be able to supply fruit all year round, as is already done with Adelita raspberries."

The campaign in the province of Huelva comes to a close in May due to the high temperatures. For Cuna de Platero, this has been "a good campaign in terms of quality and volume."

A commitment to caring for the environment
Each campaign is, according to Báñez, "an exercise of responsibility: with our customers, with our social context and with the environment. We try to take care of each of these areas as much as possible."

For this reason, Cuna de Platero has committed itself again to programs like Bayer's Food Chain Partnership in 100% of its strawberry crops. This allows it to offer consumers a quality fruit, more natural, safer and healthier, and with a sustainable production. Moreover, it continues enforcing the 'Innocent Drink' project, which allows it to save water every year.
