"Clients don't want just a greenhouse, they want a Lucchini greenhouse"

2017 is an important year for Idromeccanica Lucchini di Guidizzolo, as it will celebrate its 70th anniversary with a special event to be held in June. For the occasion, we will retrace the main steps in the history of the company with Massimo Lucchini, co-owner with brother Emanuele.

Massimo tells us that the company was founded by his father Dino and uncle Angelo in 1947. "At first, we specialised in irrigation systems and then, in the 1960s, we started designing and building greenhouses. The new headquarters were built in 2005 and we are now leaders in technical solutions for protected environments."

The new facility is a state-of-the-art structure, home to offices, the production department, a conference room seating over 300 people and a showroom where company meetings and large events such as "Tecnica in campo" are organised.

In 2016 alone, Lucchini worked with 42 different countries and supplied assistance 24-7 for 265 days. "In the 1980s, we only supplied three types of greenhouses whereas now we can design and build all kinds of structures. We can get uniform greenhouse temperature down to one hundredth of a degree." This is why clients do not want just a greenhouse, they want a Lucchini greenhouse.

"Clients are an essential asset, that's why we've completely changed our policy over the past twenty years - we want to meet our customers needs. Greenhouses must be interpreted according to the crop and topographic and climatic characteristics. We can tackle all construction aspects but, first of all, we rely on experienced agronomists."

Greenhouse cultivation is becoming increasingly popular all over the world and Lucchini feels the tendency of supermarket chains to invest in direct procurement must not be underestimated.

Lucchini has been investing also in vertical farming for domestic environments as well as for retail and urban procurement needs. Some solutions have been presented in cooperation with ENEA during TuttoFood and Macfrut 2017.
