EXPOMANGO - June 14 to 18, 2017

Good season for the Dominican mango

"This year, the Dominican Republic will have a very good mango harvest. The production has been abundant and it has a good quality," stated Gisela Taveras, the executive director of Dominican Mango Cluster (PROMANGO)

The Dominican Republic exports 17 million kilograms of mango a year to very diverse destinations, such as Europe (52%), the United Kingdom (41%), the United States (4%), Canada (2%) and others places (1%). In fact, the country exports the biggest volume to Rotterdam, from where it is later distribution to the rest of the continent.

The season begins in March with the Mingolo, Golden Drop, and Puntica varieties and goes until August with the Haden, Madame Frances, Palmer, Banilejo, and Keitt variety, which closes the season. "The quality of Dominican mangoes satisfies the taste expectations that justify international prices. The Dominican mangoes have an advantage because they have more Brix degrees than the mangoes from other countries." The Dominican Institute of Agricultural and Forest Research (IDIAF) is developing a Germplasm Bank in 5 provinces with different climatic conditions to evaluate the behavior of new and existing varieties, demanded by the international markets.

At present, they are organizing their traditional EXPOMANGO Fair that will be held this year from June 14 to 18, 2017, in the square of the Bani City Council, Peravia Province, Dominican Republic.

As usual the fair will include the following activities: Exhibitions and Sales, Talks and Conferences, Plantation Tours, Ecotourism Tours, Negotiation Tables, Contests, Dishes and Tastings, Artistic and Cultural Presentations, Exhibition Equipment, Machinery and Technology.

The central themes of the fair's program are the Technical Conferences, which will be held on June 13 and 16, at the Perello Cultural Center, where national and international experts will present the technological advances on cultivation. This year's motto: Safely Producing to Export Quality. The theme for these days is the Post-harvest.
