China: Hainan dragon fruits enters market at low prices

Recently, dragon fruits from Hainan Province have been available in the market. Compared to the same time last year, the kilo price now is one yuan lower. According to Jun Yang, green produce analyst frm SCI, the supply in the Ledong region is very stable, and many wholesalers are purchasing from there and thus the sales is going fast at the local market there. However, in the general domestic market, the performance of these fresh dragon fruits are not fast sellers because of the relatively high prices. The main reason is that there has been supply of counter-seasonal fruits in the market, so that consumers are reacting positively towards these new arrivals. Also, the overall sales of fruits is not very satisfying this year, and the trend has also affected the sales of dragon fruits.
