Excessive rain in Spain has swollen lemons to a super-size. Known as Emperor lemons, these larger sized lemons aren’t usually sold in the UK because there are normally so few of them. However, this year they are huge and we’ve worked with our suppliers to make sure that none of them go to waste.

The wet winter suffered in Spain means this season Tesco can stock these super-size lemons for the first time in the UK, throughout the summer. The Emperor Lemon is double the size of a normal unwaxed lemon.
"Thanks to our direct relationship we have been able to adapt our specifications and design a new pack to ensure that none of these large lemons go to waste. These lemons are great for juicing making them perfect for customers and our growers," a Tesco representative said.
"We’re able to offer a sustainable price to our growers and a great retail price to our customers of £1.75. This makes the Emperor 40p/kg cheaper verses the unwaxed."
