Italy: Florette introduces new spread range

At TuttoFood 2017, Florette launched three new vegetable spreads from the Hummus range: Chickpea and sesame seeds, Red peppers with Kalamata olives and Guacamole with fresh avocado.

The spread range launched at TuttoFood.

Healthy and preservative-free spreads in practical 175 gram packets. Perfect with fresh vegetables or for the preparation of delicious recipes.

The Florette group originated as a family business established in 1983 and has been operating in Italy since 2005. It is part of the "vegetable" division of the Agrial group, a food-processing cooperative located in western France.

Around 12,000 growers are part of the group, which has centres all over Europe guaranteeing the availability of the products throughout the year.

Marie-Pierre Derouet, Italy marketing director marketing, explained: "Florette is the European leader in the production and commercialisation of fresh-cut salads and products, especially in France, Spain, UK, Germany and Benelux. We are also growing in Switzerland, Malta, Ireland and Portugal. Feedback in Italy has been very good so far, but we will see the true results with the next campaign."

"We have 15 facilities in Europe and our turnover is of approximately €600 million. Our most popular product is Iceberg salad, we are the main producers of fresh-cut Iceberg lettuce in Europe. The shelf-life is 10/12 days and we can guarantee supplies throughout the year. Of course we also produce other lettuces, baby leaves and mixes."

"We believe processed products provide an added service. Healthy eating habits are becoming more popular and these enable consumers to have products that can be eaten immediately without resorting to junk food. This is also good for the food service and catering industries, as they can be sure that the product is safe."

"We destine our products to the entire Italian territory, where we have just launched our spreads creams and healthy mixes with kale."

"Salad bags are supplied under both the Florette brand and for private labels. The flat-bottomed stand-up packet is particularly practical."

The company operates on all sales channels - retail, wholesale, H&R. The main Italian retailers with which it collaborates are Carrefour, Esselunga and Buona Terra.

"We have various challenges we'd like to tackle in the future. We want to reduce the time from field to table, guarantee the freshness of the product in all processing stages and maintain high-standards of respect for both the territory and the environment. To us, innovation means reaching consumers outguessing the trends and introducing new niche products."
