"Many exotics can be produced in Kenya year-round"
Growth
Kankam has its own area of 20 hectares. "In addition, we get supply from several small growers, with a combined area of about 100 hectares. This increases annually, resulting in an increasing product supply. The harvested products are transported to packing facilities in reefer trucks. After they've been packed, they're transported to the harbour or airport. All of the transportation is refrigerated, to guarantee the freshness of the products."

She indicates that the main competitors for Kenyan Avocado are Peru and Chile. "A difference with those markets is that they have larger cultivation companies. We naturally think Kenyan products have a better flavour, because of the good soil. A major advantage of Kenya is that we can produce many exotics year-round."
As of next season, Kankam will also export processed products. "We'll start with frozen pulp from mangoes and other exotics. This will give us wonderful growing options for the future."
