Pineapples under Cebon now as well

“Pineapple market slowly recovering”

The assortment under own brand Cebon marketed by Group A. de Witte is always expanding. “We select products of great quality for our Cebon brand, which we can offer to our customers year-round. In addition to avocados, mangoes, and a wide range of exotics, we will import sweet pineapples under the brand Cebon from now on as well. On 30 May we’re expecting the first arrival from Costa Rica,” says Erwin Callebaut from Starfruit.

Weekly
He indicates that the Cebon pineapples have been specially selected. “We’d been looking for the best pineapples for a while, and we are now ready for them. We found what we’ve been looking for. Group A. de Witte starts with one container per week. If customers respond positively, we’ll expand this. The containers will arrive on Tuesday every week.”

Distinctive
Erwin has years of experience on the pineapple market. “Everyone has this product nowadays, and it isn’t easy to be distinctive. You can only be distinctive when you’re better than the rest. During the selection, special attention is paid to the sugar content, the colour of the skin and flesh, and the flavour. All sizes are available, and promos are also an option. With this Cebon pineapple, we want to market a high-quality product year-round, at a fair price. Quality has a price, and we’ve also noticed consumers gladly pay this for other brands as well.”

The market situation is tricky for pineapples at the moment. “After the extreme high prices in March and April, we’re now in a slump period. Volume isn’t really as large as in previous weeks anymore, but demand dropped because of the high prices. That should now be recovering. This isn’t unusual, when you reach 20 euro per package, eventually that’ll be too much. That’s when that slump happens. I’m under the impression that we’re now at the bottom, and that the market will slowly start recovering.”
