Overview of novelties from CPMA tradeshow

FreshPlaza made a photo report from the novelties that were presented at the CPMA tradeshow in Toronto earlier this month. Kits of all sorts seem to be a growing trend. While salad kits are turning to organics to expand the category, other expansions can be seen in personal salad kit bowls and new varieties. Nourish bowls, stir fry kits and even DIY pickling kits also round out some of this trend.

Consumers want their products to last, which meant that packaging innovations were on display. Resealables of all sorts were featured, including developments in top-sealing trays, resealable packaging on mushrooms and upside-down resealable cherry tomato containers.

Mini products
Whether they want to get into school lunchboxes or just find a new way to appeal to customers, "mini" products and new ways to package portable product also looked to be a trend. Mini-peppers, cherry tomatoes and mini-cucumbers were packaged in grab-and-go containers to make life easier for shoppers.

The showcase also featured a few new ways with food, including new varieties of veggie noodles, chip-cut sweet potatoes and beetroot powder.
