Fruitimprese data on fresh produce trade at February 2017

During the first two months of 2017, exported volumes dropped (-11.5%) but the value increased by 7.1%. The lack of produce (mainly vegetables and citrus fruit) during the period in question led to an increase in prices. Imported volumes increased both in terms of volumes (5.3%) and value (10.4%). The balance was €244 million, i.e. -0.3% compared to 2016.

All in all, during the first two months of the year, Italy exported over 647 thousand tons of produce for a value of €846 million.

There was a drop in the volume of vegetables (-19.8%), citrus fruit (-11.1%) and fresh fruit (-7.7%) while dried fruit saw an increase (10%). In terms of value, the sign was negative only for citrus fruit (-1.5%) and dried fruit (-1.1%) while it was positive for fresh fruit (1%) and vegetables (19.1%)

Italy imported approximately 570 thousand tons of produce for €602 million. 

There was an increase in the volumes of fresh fruit (2.6%), dried fruit (19.2%), citrus fruit (36%) and tropical fruit (16.3%) and a decrease for vegetables (-6.7%). The sign was negative for dried fruit (-12.3%) and positive for all the other segments: vegetables (34.5%), citrus fruit (36.2%), fresh fruit (7.6%) and tropical fruit (13.6%).
