The perfect storage and the shelf life of food is an aspect that affects producers, marketers and transport companies, as well as the final consumers. That is why packaging solutions are in continuous development, offering both more efficient and attractive designs. "We have been marketing our new 1 kg container following a client's request," states Antonia Mirra. It is a packaging format whose special plastic prevents condensation and, therefore, the moisture inside the plastic bags after the vegetables have been packed for a few days. In turn, the cardboard tray ensures the product can breathe, thereby extending its shelf life.
"It has worked so well that we have started marketing its 500 gram version a month ago, at the request of another customer," adds Mirra. It should be noted that, for now, this Italian company only packs baby leaves under these conditions, but are open to other possible requests, both in terms of sizes and products.
As for the final price, this increases by 0.20 Euro; however, "we have reached an agreement by which our customer, thanks precisely to the fact that the product's condition stays good for longer, has increased the volume of the order." This consequently compensates for the higher price.
