Italy: Nectarines doing better than other stone fruit at the moment

The peach and nectarine campaign has just started in the San Ferdinando di Puglia area. As regards apricots, the Ninfa campaign has started, the Pricia one is almost over and Mogador are no longer available.

The year has not been good so far, especially for apricots. Prices at origin are too low (at least 45% lower than last year) and it's difficult to make a sale. Red apricots are doing slightly better, but overall still not so good.

The Flariba nectarine campaign has started and the Early Bomba one is expected to start soon. The harvesting of Francoise and Sagittaria has started. As regards stone fruit, nectarines are the ones doing better at the moment.

Nicola Bollino, operator from the San Ferdinando di Puglia/Trinitapoli area, reports: "We will start harvesting Early Bomba in a week's time and will only be handling nectarines until June 15th. After then, the peach campaign will also start. Harvesting should continue until early October."

Early Bomba.

According to Nicola, there should be a gap in the peach sector as of 15th June, which should favour apricots, as quantities are too high.
