France: New banana ripening station in Perpignan

This will be Compagnie Fruitière’s ninth ripening station and, with it, they will become the network with the most coverage in France.

The 2,000m2 ripening station is at the entrance of the Saint Charles market in Perpignan, less than 40km from Port Vendres, where the bananas arrive. The station has 10 cutting edge banana ripening chambers (de Laat’s Eco Top Turn system). This system is more economical in terms of energy on the current market.

The ripening station in Perpignan really is ecological with it’s photovoltaic 220Kwc roof and proximity to the port (reducing the carbon footprint of the bananas to a minimum).

The annual capacity is 12,000 tons of bananas and will be of a full range (organic bananas, fair-trade or conventional African bananas in all types of packaging, Ana’dou and Supreme pineapples).
