China: Garlic prices dropped over 30% in the last week

According to the latest market statistics, the garlic price has dropped dramatically. In one week it fell by over 30%. The latest data show that the distribution price is now between 1.3 and 2.2 yuan/500g. Compared to last week, that is 36% lower, and compared to last year it is a decrease of 32%.

The reason that the price has been decreasing recently is that garlic from the northern production sites has been entering the market. The garlic that is now being sold on the market is from Kaifeng and Zhongmu in Henan, several places in Shandong, and from Xuzhou in Jiangsu. "Moreover, garlic from several production sites in Hebei has also started to enter the market. In previous years, garlic from Henan would enter the market three to four weeks earlier than garlic from Shandong, but this year, the difference is only two weeks. Now that all the garlic from different areas has entered the market at the same time, the price changes dramatically."

While the garlic price is dropping fast, the price of dried garlic also appears to decrease. Its weekly decline has already reached 21,72%. The market's traders report that the drop in price is only the beginning. It appears that the price will continue to drop, especially for the dried garlic, and that it will start to decrease even faster.
