Italy: Bigarreau not the only cherry variety on the market!

Entrepreneur Giacomo Suglia from Noicattaro intervened in response to what was reported by Coldiretti Puglia on the cherry situation and prices.

"I could understand his reasoning if Bigarreau were the only cherries available, but they aren't. In addition to produce that has suffered quality-wise and should be destined to the processing industry, the first volumes of Giorgia and Ferrovia cherries are also available."

According to the report, the average price for Giorgia is €3/kg, while that of Ferrovia is €4-4.20/kg.

"Maybe Coldiretti took a quotation as a reference that had nothing to do with Bigarreau cherries but actually referred to some other variety."
