Climate neutral strawberries by Port International GmbH

As of today, environmentally conscious consumers can now buy their strawberries in Switzerland. In cooperation with ClimatePartner, the entire carbon footprint for these strawberries was calculated and all related emissions were balanced by supporting internationally recognized carbon offset projects.

The greenhouse gas produced during cultivation, transport and packaging of the strawberries was the basis for the calculation that also included fertilizer, fuel and the wooden boxes in which the strawberries are finally presented.

For 808 tons of strawberries (including packaging), 555 tons of CO2 were balanced and two carbon offset projects selected: a wind energy project in Vader Piet on the Caribbean island of Aruba as well as a cooking stove project in Peru.

It keeps getting easier for consumers to help protect the climate. People who opt for conscious consumption and climate neutral products invest actively in sustainability. Port International supports this with climate neutral strawberries.

"Consumers are becoming more and more critical - and with good reason. Being an innovative company and having been one of the first to trade organic and Fairtrade bananas, sustainability is a topic very close to our hearts. Climate neutral strawberries are our next step and the goal is to enable interested consumers to make environmentally friendly choices."

"We are very happy to cooperate with our long-term partner Agromartin for this project. Should the demand develop accordingly, we would like to extend the trade with climate neutral fruits to other products in our portfolio soon," explain Philippe Peiro and Andre Luling. Managing Directors of Port International European Sourcing GmbH.
