Canadian farmers catch leek thieves

While working away on their farm, planting asparagus roots, Thea and her cousin Annie noticed three big bears...or so they thought...walking across the back field of their property between the sugar bushes. She alerted her dad right away and he knew that those were not bears! They were people, dressed in black, carrying large black bags. They were illegally harvesting wild leeks from the bush.

Now, the thing with wild leeks is not only are they delicious and only available for a short period of time, but they are also easily destroyed by over harvesting. Sprinting in work boots, while calling in the trespassing to the police, he was able to head them off at the road. Halton Regional Police arrived on the scene and helped the unexpected visitors from Toronto understand that they were breaking the law.

"We did not press charges, but they did receive a stern warning from the police who took down their information. Big thank you to Halton Regional Police for their assistance. And now we have close to 100lbs of wild leeks available. Interested in trying this onion like plant, stop by for a free sample. We don't want it to go to waste," they said.
