Colombian avocado prices have increased by 20% in the last year

This year, Hass avocado prices have reached a never before seen level, stated Rodolfo Ahumada, the commercial director of Pacific Fruits. Not only in Europe, Ahumada says, but also in North America and in the Asian markets. "We are very fortunate to export in a window where there isn't enough supply to satisfy the demand", Ahumada added.

According to data by Pacific Fruits, in this period last year, the average price in Colombia of a 20 gauge avocado was 2.15 euro/ kg FOB, and this year it was EUR 2.50 / kg FOB. In addition, a box of calibers 20 was at 12.50 euro in the Rungis market last year, while this year it stands at 14.50 euro, and this increase could extend to other calibers.

The main export destinations of this Colombian company are Spain (with 30% of the total), France (30%), the Netherlands (25%), and Germany (15%).

"Our goal this year is to compete in the UK market," Ahumada said. A very real possibility for this company, as their production volume increases year after year. "During the last campaign we shipped 120 containers and in 2017 we plan to export 300 containers," the manager said.
