Review of the imported fruit market of week 16

Australian grapes face slow sales while citrus demand grows steadily

With the temperatures rising gradually, there has been a growing market demand for imported citrus fruit this week. As a result, the prices of oranges and grapefruits from the US, Spain, Egypt and other countries are increasing to varying degrees. In contrast, Australian grapes are facing slow sales in the market so that many of the grapes are transported to Shanghai from Guangzhou, in the hope of seeking greater sales opportunities there.

Oranges are fast-sellers in the import market

This week, many customers bought truckloads of oranges from different sales channels. Due to various customer demands, many people have purchased oranges from the US, Spain and Egypt at the same time, which has resulted in the increasing prices of imported citrus products in the market. Taking Spanish oranges as an example, due to the rainy weather this season, their quality has decreased compared to last year. Therefore, the sales of Spanish oranges did not go very well earlier on.

With the weather conditions improving lately and the supply of summer oranges replaced by late-season navel oranges with a better taste, their sales volume and prices have both gone up this week. The No. 54 oranges, for example, are sold at higher prices between 180-200 yuan this week with an increasing sales volume. Egyptian oranges have had a stable performance so far this season. This week the sales volume remains steady and the prices have gone slightly up to the range between 130 and 150 yuan.

The situation is completely different for Australian grapes. Affected by the weather conditions, the color of the grapes this season is unsatisfactory. In addition, due to high costs, these grapes have experienced slow sales in the market. With the harvest season reaching its prime, the import volume of Australian grapes has been growing. On the other hand, grapes from Peru and Chile are also arriving in China, and with their price advantages, these grapes are selling fast. As a result, grapes are showing a polarized market situation this week. The prices of Chilean Red have gone up to around 145 to 160 yuan for XL sizes with average quality and around 170 to 190 yuan for those with great quality. The prices of Australian grapes remain low, ranging between 220 and 230 yuan, which is much lower compared to the prices from previous years, but even with such prices, the sales remains very slow.
