Spain: Carrefour and Ecovalia backing organic agriculture

An agreement has been signed by Gaspar Noguera, regional director of Carrefour in Andalusia, and Álvaro Barrera, president of Ecovalia, which aims to promote and develop actions in the 40 Carrefour hypermarkets in Andalusia with the goal of raising the awareness of consumers of the benefits of organic farming.

Thanks to this agreement, actions will be coordinated between producers and Carrefour that will increase the presence of organic products in the commercial communication dynamics of the distributor, especially in a regional scope. There will be "Bio Fairs" in the stores; the presence of new producers will be promoted and the products will be more present in social media and the "Mi Carrefour" application, among other actions.

Spain is already among the 10 countries that top the ranking of the largest consumers of organic products globally. Increasing public awareness of the benefits of organic agriculture and livestock requires an effective response from the market today, improving distribution channels and access to organic products.

Álvaro Barrera, president of Ecovalia, highlighted "the importance of the joint efforts made by producers, companies and the Administration in order to promote this type of agriculture and livestock, which translates into a healthy diet for its consumers and a fundamental tool to protect the environment." He also commented that "Andalusia is the ideal place to start actions such as those foreseen in this pioneering agreement between Ecovalia and Carrefour, as it is the region that accounts of half of Spain's organic production, although we are sure that we will be able to extend the agreement to other areas soon."
