Qingdao strawberries up in price

"The Tianbao strawberries cultivated in the greenhouses of Qingdao, Shandong province, entered the market at the beginning of January. The supply season lasts until 30 May more or less. Compared to the production season last year, the production this year has been reduced by 5%. The sales price on the other hand has gone up 10 to 20% compared to last year," says Mr. Wang Yanyi from the Qingdao Shunyifeng farm.

"Our strawberry greenhouse farm is located in Laixi city in Qingdao, Shandong province. Apart from our own cultivation ground of around 7 hectares, we also cooperate with a commonly controlled cooperative that has almost 70 hectares of strawberry cultivation surface. On all these grounds, the Tianbao variety is cultivated."

"Prices were stable in the early months, from New Year to the Chinese New Year, similar to the same period last year. From Chinese New Year until now, the price has been going up. At present, the market price is about 10 to 15% higher than last year. One main reason is that the supervision by the cultivators in the greenhouse cultivation has intensified. Cultivators also progressively understand the importance of food safety, so the quality of the strawberries naturally goes up. From the second they went on the market, they were favoured by the consumers."

"Our Tianbao strawberries are currently sold to large-scale or middle-scale supermarkets in Beijing, Dalian, Tianjin, Qingdao and other cities. At present, we don't have an online sales channel, but were are in negotiation with Jingdong. So we hope that online sales will start in the near future."
